Effective or Affective?

One of the most common grammatical errors is the incorrect usage of the words effect and affect.  To be honest with you, I still don’t really understand the difference and I just Wikipedia-ed it!  Regardless of the correct meaning, you and I were made to be effective (or is it affective?)  Let’s keep it simple, we are made to be influential!  We as people, are easily influenced.  Just look at something as obvious as fashion.  You see a guy wearing a V-neck, “Hey, I’m gonna go buy me a V-Neck.”  You see a girl wearing Nike running shorts, “Hey, I’m gonna go get me some Nike running shorts!”  If you wear either, I’m not knocking you, I’m just stating the power of influence.  I spent the early 90′s “tight rolling” my jeans and looping my braided belt because of the power of influence.  But our influence doesn’t just stop with the way we dress.  Whether you know it or not, more than likely, people are watching the way you live your life.  What they see influences them.  Do you realize your influence?  Are you living with the realization that you can have a huge effect on the lives of those around you.  Do you understand that you can affect the people on Georgia College’s campus?  Jesus was an agent of change during His time on earth.  We are called to be the same.  Please come to Wesley this Wednesday night!  We will be talking about the power of influence and how we are meant to be agents of change.  We will be meeting on the Quad (between Parkhurst and Foundation) @ 7:30pm.  It should be fun!  See you there.  Tate.

The College Years

We had a great turn out for the Ice Cream Social!  Thank you to all of the interns and leaders for doing such a great job.  You are the reason the event was successful!  This coming Wednesday, the 24th, is our first Wesley service.  It will be at 7:30pm on FRONT CAMPUS.  I’d love for you to be there!  I will be sharing a little bit about myself and how the Lord used my college years to change my life.  I want each of you to realize the  importance of your time in college. For most people, college is a transitional time in life. It serves as a primary step into adulthood.  Some of the decisions you make in college can shape the rest of your life.  With all the beliefs, life-styles, temptations, and people you encounter during your college years it can be challenging to find the truth.  Even if you come into college as a Christian, statistics show that about 50% of high school Christians fall away during their college years. The good news is you don’t have to be a part of this statistic!  Your college experience can be life giving.  Whether you are a believer or are still searching for the truth, I think you will enjoy this Wednesday night!  Come and join us.  - Tate
