Relationship Talk

Hey Students!

Tomorrow night at Wesley, Tate and Ashley will be sharing their LOVE story in an effort to encourage you in relationships with the opposite sex! It can be a complicated journey, but we hope to demystify dating, guy/girl friendships, and finding a spouse. Come with your questions because we will have a fun, new way to get the audience involved with the talk. For all of you who feel hopeless about finding love, here is living proof that God can bring healing, maturity, power, and love in the most unlikely of circumstances…

Long time, no blog updates!!

We hope that your new year and new semester are starting off well!!

Please be in prayer for our Spring Mission Trip to New Orleans and Summer Mission Trip to India.

Our students will be raising lots of money, and we are depending on the Lord to provide!

Lots of details need to be ironed out. Please pray that God will lead us as we step out in faith and answer the call to “go and make disciples.”

Graduate School Fair

Hey Guys!

This Monday, October 24th, there is a Graduate and Professional School Admissions Fair. It is located in the Magnolia Ballroom from 11:30 – 3:00. One of the schools that will be represented is Richmont Graduate University, a Christian counseling school. Our good friend, McCall Garner, will be the recruiter present at the Richmont table. She’s AMAZING and would love to talk to any and all of you about attending Richmont. So definitely stop by if you are the slightest bit interested in counseling. I have included a blurb she sent me that gives you a bit more information about Richmont:

Richmont Graduate University (formerly PSI) is the third oldest graduate institution that provides master’s-level training in Professional Counseling from a Christian perspective. In addition, Richmont is involved in research efforts to demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating applied psychology with practical theology. Richmont is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to confer the following degrees: MA in Professional Counseling; MA in Marriage and Family Therapy; MS in Christian Psychological Studies & M.A. of Ministry.

If you stop by the table, tell her you are from Wesley!! She LOVES college students, Wesley attendees, and the Wellings so you will be in good hands!!!

Waiting

Hey Everyone! Ashley here! I just wanted to say hi and thank everyone for the prayers and blessings you have showered on our family as we waited the arrival of our Baby Girl. For anyone who wants to know the specs:

Brylee Cade Welling was born on October 12th at 4:54 a.m. (That means she is already a week old!) She weighed 7 lbs. and 9 oz. She was 20.5 inches long. She is absolutely beautiful and has a very good temperament. (Seriously, she rarely cries.) I am hoping to make it to Wesley next Wednesday night to show her off. If anyone is dying to meet her sooner, just let Tate know!! Thanks again for your prayers! We love y’all! And Brylee is super excited to be the newest (and youngest) Wesley attendee!

Tonight, Tate is talking about “waiting.” This is something that the Lord has taught me a ton on in the past three years. We often wait on something or someone; whether it be an answer to prayer or a spouse or a change in circumstances. Waiting can be straight up HARD! But what the Lord has taught me is that He has called us to wait upon Him. If we learn this beautiful art, we will never be disappointed. When the answer we are waiting on does not align with our expectations or if our lives turn out differently than we had thought, we can fully rest in the knowledge that we waited upon the Faithful One. He is faithful, even when we are faithless!! The fruit that is produced in the waiting is WELL worth the “wait.”

I encourage you to come tonight (and bring a friend) if you struggle with “waiting” or just want to learn more about what to do in the “waiting.”

Tate is very excited to be back and wants to see everyone come out (even in this cold, dreary weather)!

We love you and thank you again!!!

Opportunity To Be A Blessing

Sometimes the smallest gesture can make the greatest difference in a person’s life.  This year, Wesley has been looking for opportunities to serve the GC Campus, Milledgeville community, and ultimately impact the world; whether it be through prayer, missions trips, or other opportunities.  This Wednesday we will be taking some time out of our service to give back to our fellow Americans.  If you’re from the Atlanta area, you’ve probably heard of the Bert Show on Q100.  If you’re unfamiliar with the show, it is a secular radio program, but the Bert Show team is very humanitarian in their efforts: always looking for ways to positively impact the Atlanta community and in this case, the world.  For Thanksgiving, The Bert Show is doing a letter writing campaign: “The Bert Show’s BIG THANK YOU.”  They are looking for over 400,000 handwritten letters from those of us ‘back home’ to ensure that every service man and woman stationed anywhere in the world has a letter thanking them for their service and sacrifice this Thanksgiving Season.  Go ahead and start thinking of what you want to write.  Wednesday night we will provide the paper, prompts, and writing utensils; all you have to do is say “thanks!”  You can go here: http://thebertshow.com/the-bert-shows-big-thank-you/ to hear the members of The Bert Show talk about the campaign!

Are we staying busy or staying distracted?

Let me first state a fact:  Everybody has struggles.

I start with that simple fact because it’s often forgotten.  It’s easy to feel like the only one who struggles.  Let me ask you this…how many times have you thought, “Others may have issues, but nothing can compare to mine”?  If you think about it, there is no logic that would support this way of thinking.  It’s an illegitimate thought formed by either the enemy or our own anxious mindset.  We referenced this way of thinking last week while talking about anxiety.  It’s bad enough to deal with the anxiety itself, but then to also deal with anxiety about your anxiety!  It’s a vicious circle.  All because of the incorrect thought of being alone in our struggle. Hebrews 4:15 says, 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin (emphasis mine).    The use of the word empathize in this verse says a lot.  For someone to have empathy, it means they have the ability to understand.  Jesus has the ability to understand because He has been tempted in every way.  The point is, we are not going to shock him.  We have our struggles.  They seem impossible to overcome.  We think healing is real, but just not for us.  So what do we do?  We burry it deep.  We dig a deep hole in our soul and cover and fill the hole with business.  We do great things for the kingdom.  We love people.  We serve people.  But all the while, we aren’t loving ourselves.  We aren’t seeing fruit in our own lives.  We aren’t seeing God move in our own heart.  Why?  Because when we burry things deep, we taint our soil.

Are you staying busy or are you staying distracted?  If its the latter, grab a shovel and dig up that struggle.  Pull it up out of your broken spirit, shake off the dirt and place it in the hands of Jesus.  See what He does with it.  Remember, you do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with your weaknesses.  He has been tempted in every way!  He understands.

Anxiety

Hey folks,

Tonight we will be talking about anxiety, and how freedom from anxiety comes from God through the renewing of our minds.  Romans 8 tells us that the mind governed by the flesh (the carnal mind) is hostile to God, and leads to death.  Anxiety is a part of that death!  For far too long the enemy has used anxiety to “kill, steal, and destroy.”  It’s time that we take a stand against that, and learn how to effectively fight the battle that is in our minds.  I hope you can come tonight!

1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you”

Effective or Affective?

One of the most common grammatical errors is the incorrect usage of the words effect and affect.  To be honest with you, I still don’t really understand the difference and I just Wikipedia-ed it!  Regardless of the correct meaning, you and I were made to be effective (or is it affective?)  Let’s keep it simple, we are made to be influential!  We as people, are easily influenced.  Just look at something as obvious as fashion.  You see a guy wearing a V-neck, “Hey, I’m gonna go buy me a V-Neck.”  You see a girl wearing Nike running shorts, “Hey, I’m gonna go get me some Nike running shorts!”  If you wear either, I’m not knocking you, I’m just stating the power of influence.  I spent the early 90′s “tight rolling” my jeans and looping my braided belt because of the power of influence.  But our influence doesn’t just stop with the way we dress.  Whether you know it or not, more than likely, people are watching the way you live your life.  What they see influences them.  Do you realize your influence?  Are you living with the realization that you can have a huge effect on the lives of those around you.  Do you understand that you can affect the people on Georgia College’s campus?  Jesus was an agent of change during His time on earth.  We are called to be the same.  Please come to Wesley this Wednesday night!  We will be talking about the power of influence and how we are meant to be agents of change.  We will be meeting on the Quad (between Parkhurst and Foundation) @ 7:30pm.  It should be fun!  See you there.  Tate.
